ALAN BAYLOCK JAZZ ORCHESTRA

Featuring some of the finest jazz musicians in the country, the Alan Baylock Jazz Orchestra (ABJO) is a well-rehearsed, creative ensemble dedicated to the advancement of big band jazz as an art form. Led by composer/arranger Alan Baylock, the band has a cohesive, distinctive sound that is both entertaining and inspiring. The group’s first two recordings, “Two Seconds to Midnight,” (2003) and “Eastern Standard Time” (2008) have received nationwide critical acclaim and international airplay. The band’s third CD, “Prime Time” (2014) has also garnered rave reviews, and features the legendary Doc Severinsen.

Members of the band include veterans of the Woody Herman Orchestra, the Count Basie Orchestra, Maynard Ferguson’s Big Bop Nouveau, the Army Blues, the Airmen of Note, and many others. The band has performed and/or recorded with prominent jazz artists such as Doc Severinsen, Ernie Watts, Kenny Werner, Jerry Bergonzi, Marcus Printup, and has been featured at concert halls and nightclubs throughout the East Coast. The ABJO has also been showcased at Jazz Education Conferences in New Orleans and Louisville, and will be travelling to San Diego in January, 2015 to perform at the 6th annual JEN Conference.

Baylock’s mastery of the art of jazz arranging and composition expresses itself in his incomparable technique, staggering virtuosity, and an unquenchable desire to challenge and surprise. Along with explosive energy, ingenious re-harmonizations, imaginative melodic, tonal and rhythmic expressions, Alan’s creations beam with a sense of joy and soulfulness, and are a glimpse into the depth of the human spirit.
